Le Brunch at Le Bun

In keeping with the foodie theme, Saturday was spent discovering a new London gem. Miss S got the gang together for some Le Brunch at Le Bun!

We visited the New Street Grill location, tucked away a stones-throw from Liverpool Street station, where the street-food success story is running a residency there on the weekends!

The style is 'luxury French-American' which translates to diner vibes in a sophisticated setting, and a menu that pokes fun at and mixes up deliciousness from both worlds.

Duck, Waffle and Morning Cocktails

So, after about two years of planning, we finally made it to Duck & Waffle. Towering forty floors above the hustle and bustle that is central London, this little 24/7 gem offers everything from classic brunch to midnight oysters and mini-burgers. What's not to love!

The decor is just the right mix of quirky, fancy and welcoming.

The Breakfast Club expands

Ever since my first outing to their Islington/Angel branch I have been a big fan of 'The Breakfast Club'.

Smeg fridges, American brunch menues, friendly fun staff and quirky interiors.
Oh, and back when I could still munch dairy, epic pancakes.

Not to mention that when we found ourselves visiting the Mayor at the Brick Lane locale we devoured some of the most memorable chicken wings to date. And we all know how important chicken wing quality is to moi. ;)

Naturally I was beyond excited to realise they had expanded and opened up shop on Battersea Rise, only a jog away from the house. The obvious reaction? Mentioned brunch to Victoria and have ourselves a little trial.

It's a very cute interior, and positively huge in comparison to most of their other branches.

The menu also hints to another secret. Much like the Mayor, I hear the King also offers cocktails in the eve ;).

As miss Victoria was stuck on a bus that decided to re-route mid trip (not okay) I decided to start with the basic obligatory morning soy latte.

The drinks menu features these super-smoothies. Blueberries, Raspberries, super vitamins

Apparently I'm no longer the man in this relationship...

We decided to go for the breakfast burrito and the French bacon and banana toast. Deliciousness ensued!

All in all it was a lovely Brunch and the location is great for us south of the river folks. However, while the waiting staff started out absolutely lovely and charming there was a sense of over-attentiveness (we don't need more napkins... or spoons...). Although I suppose in the end I would rather deal with that then no service.

The eve ended with a lovely cup of Söder Te curtsey of miss Victoria. Time to unwind on the sofa!

Brunch at the Botanist

After some delicious cocktails in the heart of Sloane Square a few nights ago we decided to add to the experience and trial The Botanist for one of my fave meals of the day. Brunch time.

The sun was still shining but the grey was slowly taking over, and both myself and Victoria had decided to defy the winter weather with spring time dressing. Bad idea, we both shivered the whole way in.

The coffee was delicious, strong with distinguishable flavours. Always a good start.

After a rather long (20 minutes) wait while we grew more and more impatient while staring at the food around us we finally got to request our orders. Never a great idea as by that point you overdo just about everything.

The pain au chocolate was hot from the oven and went down well, even though I had ordered it for 'dessert' and was a bit confused by this order of service.

I helped myself to some oak smoked salmon with toast, and non-milky scrambled eggs. Am fairly certain there was indeed milk in there, and was underwhelmed with the presentation, but the salmon was yummy as can be.

Victoria went for Eggs Royale and got a muffin the size of a child's fist. Needless to say we both needed more coffee to keep our spirits up.

After a good and positive morning meeting about all the madness and adventures going on right now we ordered another pain au chocolate for the afternoon tea time in the office lounge, and were on our merry way.

All in all, it's somewhere I'll keep returning for cocktails or even coffee, for brain storming sessions and to watch men dressed identically mill around and tell women their salaries (always an amusing pick up line), but I doubt they will see much more of us in the restaurant.

It was a lovely setting, and very inspiring to sit in comfort and drink coffee. The service however was nothing special, and the food a bit too unremarkable for the amazing London scene. I did miss Granger & Co.

All in all a great morning but our tummy's wanted a bit more.
